For my video, I want my concept to be about people who have too much work and wanting to go back to 1999 to remember the good times they had. The thing I liked most about the song was how it had a slight nostalgia about it, with classic song lines from Britney Spears 'Hit me baby one more time' being in the chorus. The music video itself has many intertextual references to 1999, ranging from films, technology, products and other music videos.
For my own video, I want to incorporate references from 1999, but contrast them with present time. I want to represent characters as going through a lot of stress in present time (shown through the lyrics ' Never under pressure, Those days it was so much better') and then contrast to the 1999 era with colour saturation, references and fast shots to make it more pacey and exciting. Some of the references I could use would be Harry Potter, Toy Story 2, Blair Witch, Cameras being introduced, along with other subtle references such as Princes 1999 and also archive footage of the total eclipse and other events to exaggerate the year better.
It will be very performance based, with the use of green screen and colour editing making it more 'music video' looking. In terms of editing, I will cut shots to make quick transitions to help keep the pacing fast. In terms of distinguishing the 2 time periods apart, the present would be fairly desaturated but still colourful to show present technology etc, but I want 1999 to be more colourful as it is the period people want to go to as they remember it as a good time ("Feelin' cool in my youth I'm askin', "Does anyone remember how we did it back then?").
I want the video to be aimed at an audience who are often stressed with work of studying and like going back to classics and going out in the summer to escape the stress. I would primarily aim the video at teenagers at sixth form/university but also young adults who have jobs that take up a lot of their life.
I will be in charge of the main production, as well as editing and directing. I will also be in the production itself, as well help from 2 of my friends. I want to make sure that the editing has enough time for the amount of effects I want to include, including transitions between a still picture to it then moving. The only thing that may be a problem is selecting the right frame to hold before starting the shot again. Green screen will be a huge part of this production as I need to make it look like the characters are transported into films and games from the 90s.
